It’s NOT grim up North!!
ICM training in the Northern School of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine (NSAICM) takes place in a number of hospitals in Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough. You will have the opportunity to work in 2 major trauma centres, and will have exposure to transplantation, paediatrics, cardiac and neurosurgical/spinal injuries as well as general ICU skills. Plans are in place to offer a number of special skills years for ICM trainees as well as the possibility to undergo dual training with one of our partner specialties. In addition to the main centres of ICU training, other hospitals used for Anaesthesia and/or medical elements of your training will have relevant college approval.
The Northeast offers trainers with considerable experience in ICM training with FFICM examiners at 2 of our training units, and FICE mentors at all of the units to enable echo training.
The Northeast is a great place to live, with major cities and beautiful countryside within easy reach of all of our training centres. Transport links are excellent with London less than 3 hours and Edinburgh less than 2 hours away by train.
